Tarangire National Park

0.0/5
The Tarangire National Park is the “park of the giants”: it hosts colossal baobabs and large herds of elephants.

Why choose

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is located in northern Tanzania and owes its name to the river that crosses it, the Tarangire River . The park covers an area of over 2850 sq km and is famous all over the world for its huge baobab trees and herds of elephants.

The habitat is divided between the valley of the Tarangire river and the marshy areas that are home to many poultry species as well as lush vegetation: the Tarangire National Park is renowned for its splendid and majestic baobab trees, acacia woods and Combretum woods.

During the dry season from June to October, the Tarangire river and the Silale swamp are the only source of water for thousands of animals that in this period concentrate near the banks of the river to find some refreshment. Wildebeest, zebras and antelopes gather to drink, often together with their predators, also in search of a source of water. During this time of the year you can observe many elephants moving in herds in search of tree bark.

During the rainy season the migration of these animals begins; gathered in herds that can reach tens of thousands of specimens, they leave the Tarangire National Park to continue towards the Lake Manyara Park . The abundance of water in this period creates a ground that is too marshy, making it difficult for animals to travel.
